EANECE held its 2022 annual conference virtually on 24th & 25th February 2022 under the theme “Enhanced regional cooperation for better environmental governance”. Coming at a time when EANECE is working towards stronger presence for added value to its members, the conference focused on the value of networking for better implementation of environmental policies and laws in East Africa.
The conference explored various options for strengthening environmental governance in East Africa through EANECE. Some of the key outcomes of the conference include a call for enhanced regional cooperation on environmental governance in East Africa. The conference also agreed on the setting up of an Interim Executive Committee to spearhead strategic direction of the network. The immediate assignment for the Interim Executive Committee will be to steer the affairs of the network and to fast-track implementation of the current strategic plan, resource mobilization strategy and communication plan in collaboration with the Secretariat, and to determine immediate activities and work programmes. Participants unanimously elected Mr. Arnold Waiswa Ayazika (Director Environmental Monitoring & Compliance, NEMA Uganda) as the Chairman of the Interim Executive Committee. Participants also unanimously resolved that Environmental Compliance Institute (ECI) will continue to serve as the Secretariat of EANECE. ECI will be responsible for day to day coordination and implementation of EANECE programmes.
